Writing just to fill the space in that situation is producing content disguised as news. Pragmatists may ask what readers gain when a page stays empty. The answer lies in long-term credibility. A news outlet loses trust after a single fabricated story is exposed. By contrast, a news outlet that clearly states its data limits trains readers to understand that everything published afterward has passed verification. Today's emptiness is the cost of giving tomorrow's words weight. I do not treat this blank document as a failure. It is a reminder of professional boundaries. A match needs referees because without referees there is no trustworthy result. A newspaper needs gatekeepers because without gatekeepers there is no trustworthy information. A 2,810-word article can be created by imagination, but it deserves publication only when every number inside it can be traced back to a source. Until the source arrives, the most responsible story is the story of controlled waiting.
